Description
This air fryer onion blossom recipe delivers crispy, golden petals that peel away perfectly—just like your favorite steakhouse appetizer, but with way less oil.
Ingredients
1 large sweet onion (Vidalia or Walla Walla)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp dried oregano
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
½ tsp salt
2 large eggs
2 tbsp milk
Nonstick cooking spray (avocado or olive oil)
Instructions
1. Cut the top of the onion off (not the root). Slice into 16 segments from top toward root. Soak in ice water 1 hour. Drain and pat dry.
2. Whisk eggs and milk in one bowl. In another, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, cayenne, and salt.
3. Coat onion in flour mixture, then dip in egg wash, then re-coat in flour. Press gently so coating sticks.
4. Preheat air fryer to 350°F. Spray basket and onion generously with oil spray.
5. Place onion root-side down in air fryer. Cook 18–20 minutes until golden and crispy.
6. Remove carefully and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Use a sweet onion for best flavor and structure.
Don’t skip the ice water soak—it helps the onion open up and crisp evenly.
Spray well with oil to avoid dry flour spots or uneven browning.
